w-agora : Detailed features
Requirements
w-agora is designed to run on every server that has PHP 3.0.8 or greater and a database installed.
Minimum Requirements:
- a WEB server (Apache, IIS, PWS and others)
- PHP 3.0.8 or greater, PHP4
- a database installed (mysql, postgres, oracle, or MSSQL...)
Recommended Requirements:
For optimum performance, we recommend that w-agora is run on a server that has MySQL 3.23 and PHP 4 running as an Apache module.
The software has been successfully installed on several different flavours of UNIX, as well as Windows NT/98/2000
Administrator / Webmaster features
Multi database support:
w-agora uses a database to store the messages.
Several database backends are supported such as mSQL, mySQL, postgreSQL, Oracle or Microsoft SQL server

Notes (posted messages) can be stored either in a HTML file or generated on-the-fly. In both cases, the notes are generated from a customizable templateMessage highlighting:
The messages can be displayed in different colours depending on their date (this option is available for each forum)Email notification:
Message can be sent to the administrator when a user post or modify a document.3 levels of administration:
- root (system administrator) who have all rights on anything
- administrator: can administrate sites and manage (create, edit, delete) forums and users into a site
- moderator : are responsible of some forums into a site, can moderate, edit, remove messages
4 forum access types:
- private : can be accessed only by users created throw the administration interface
- restricted : can be read by everyone but only validated users (eg. accepted by the moderator) can post on it.
- registered : can be read by everyone but only registered users can write
- public : free for read & post
Moderation option:
Each forum (regardless of his type) can be moderated: ie: messages posted by end users are hidden until the moderator decide to validate them.Online User registration:
Users can register online in a site. They can choose a userid then a password is generated and sent to they email address. The user can later change his password at any timeForum activation/deactivation:
For maintenance purpose, a forum can be :- locked: Users can still access information but can not write to it
- offline: The forum is not accessible
Extensibility:
Capability to execute a PHP script (plugin) in each sections/pages of the forums
End User side
Threaded messages:
Users can reply to messages and reply to replies.
Message can be nested without any limit
This feature can be turned off for some particular forums types (such as download areas, guestbooks, ...)File upload support:
